Vitiligo

Vitiligo

Vitiligo is a skin condition that affects the pigmentation, or color, of the skin. In people with vitiligo, certain areas of their skin lose pigment, leading to white patches. This happens because the cells that produce melanin, the substance responsible for skin color, are damaged or destroyed. The exact cause of vitiligo is not fully understood, but it is believed to involve a combination of genetic, autoimmune, and environmental factors. Vitiligo is not contagious or harmful, but it can have a significant impact on a person's appearance. While there is no cure for vitiligo, various treatments, such as topical corticosteroids or light therapy, may help manage the condition by restoring some color to the affected areas. It's important to note that vitiligo does not pose any health risks, and individuals with the condition can lead healthy lives.
