About Dr. Forsha
Douglass Forsha, MD, is a skillful dermatologist treating patients from in and around Salt Lake City and West Jordan, Utah, at Jordan Valley Dermatology Center.
Dr. Forsha was born in Omaha, Nebraska. He attended the University of Utah and Brigham Young University, earning a BA degree in Asian studies in 1979. He then attended Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, obtaining his Doctor of Medicine in May 1985. He continued at Vanderbilt to complete a one-year internship in internal medicine. Dr. Forsha completed a residency in dermatology at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Chicago in June 1989. He then practiced in Aiken, South Carolina, home of the late Senator Strom Thurmond.
In July 1991, Dr. Forsha founded South Valley Dermatology, a center of excellence in the field of dermatology in West Jordan, Utah. During the ensuing 19 years, he honed his skills in the fields of medical, surgical, cosmetic, and research dermatology. Services offered by Dr. Forsha include - but are not limited to - treatment of acne, warts, eczema, psoriasis, rashes, and all of the various types of skin cancers. Additionally, Dr. Forsha has an interest in the cosmetic areas of dermatology. He has trained in the injection of Botox and various fillers with some of the most prominent injectors in the world.
Although dermatologists, like Dr. Forsha, don't emerge from the ER or the OR with blood-soaked gowns claiming to have saved yet another life, they do save lives in the area of skin cancer care and prevention. Much of their work has to do with the quality of one's life. What child would choose to suffer the itching and scratching cycle of eczema if he/she had another option? What teenager would want to tolerate even one day of acne on their face or back? And the list goes on.
Dr. Forsha finds the field of dermatology incredibly rewarding. The skin is the largest organ of the body, comprising over two square meters of surface area. Furthermore, people see their skin every day, and when their conditions are effectively treated, they are very grateful. Dr. Forsha considers himself lucky to have found a career that is both enjoyable and fulfilling.
In his residency program, Dr. Forsha was selected to conduct dermatologic research on infants in Manipal, India, in 1988. He also traveled to Zagora, Morocco, to render charitable medical care in 2008.
On a personal note, Dr. Forsha is the father of a daughter, age 37, a son, age 30, and grandpa to Sofia, 8, and Petra, 5. His interests are broad and include reading and staying up to date with current events. He also enjoys traveling, especially by rail. Some of his favorite destinations include Hawaii, Europe, and Asia.
In 1973-1974, at age 17, he was the youngest member of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. He always keeps a 40-minute memorized program of classical piano solo literature ready and invites anyone to twist his arm to play.
