Botox Q & A

What is Botox?

Botox is an injectable medication that affects the way your nerves communicate with your muscles. More specifically, it temporarily inhibits your nerves from causing involuntary muscle movements.

At Jordan Valley Dermatology Center, the team injects your Botox dose carefully to affect only the targeted muscles while leaving others alone. If you use Botox for cosmetic purposes, you won’t look frozen or expressionless after your treatment.

If Botox isn’t the best option because of your unique needs, Jordan Valley Dermatology Center also offers similar treatments with Dysport®. Dysport works in the same way as Botox because they share an active ingredient. They have different amounts of trace proteins in their formulas, so one might be more effective for you than the other.

What can Botox treat?

Botox and Dysport specialize in treating a specific type of facial wrinkle called a dynamic wrinkle. Dynamic wrinkles, also called fine lines, develop and deepen over time the more you smile, frown, or otherwise express yourself using facial movements. A few examples of these are:

  • Crow’s feet
  • Frown lines
  • Forehead lines
  • Chin dimples

During your initial free cosmetic consultation at Jordan Valley Dermatology Center, the team asks about your treatment goals. They look at the wrinkles you identify for treatment and can tell you whether or not Botox is the right option for them.

In clinical settings, Botox is also available as a treatment for hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), migraines, urinary incontinence, and other conditions associated with unintentional muscle movements.

Am I a good candidate for Botox injections?

Botox injections are safe for many patients as long as an expert like the nurse at Jordan Valley Dermatology Center provides them. Still, part of your consultation involves talking about your general health and medical history to make sure you’ll tolerate Botox or Dysport injections well.

You might be a candidate if you:

  • Are between the ages of 18-65
  • Have time for a 10-20 minute treatment
  • Dislike your wrinkles or fine lines
  • Have generally healthy skin
  • Aren’t allergic to the ingredients

Your Botox injection results last about four months at a time. If you’re happy with the way you look, you can book follow-up injections at Jordan Valley Dermatology Center after the four months. It’s important to keep in mind that it might take 2-3 days for the full effect to take shape.

Wrinkles and fine lines may be natural, but they’re not preferable for everyone. To book a free cosmetic treatment consultation for Botox or Dysport, call Jordan Valley Dermatology Center or use the online scheduling tool today.
