Hidradenitis suppurativa is a chronic skin condition characterized by the occurrence of painful, boil-like lumps under the skin. These lumps typically form in areas where skin rubs together, such as the armpits, groin, buttocks, and under the breasts. The lumps can break open and release fluid, leading to scarring over time. The exact cause of hidradenitis suppurativa is unknown, but it is thought to involve blocked hair follicles and inflammation. The condition can vary in severity and may require a combination of treatments to manage symptoms and prevent new lumps from forming.
